Golden Oldies Car Show rumbles into St. Charles

Plus: 'Run from the Mosquitoes' & Disc Golf Tourney

ST. CHARLES – On Saturday, Sept. 25, the “Golden Oldies” Car Show returns to St. Charles as a kick-off for St. Charles Homecoming week, concluding with the Homecoming parade and football game on Friday, Oct. 1.

This is the 16th Annual Golden Oldies Car Show. Other activities held that day include: a 5k walk/run called “Run from the Mosquitoes”, a new disc golf tournament, a large group of inflatable rides for the kids, barbecue brats & hot dogs and more.


The Golden Oldies event is hosted by the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce and is geared toward EVERYONE who appreciates the automobile!

Co-chairs Jay Gardner and Ruth Ann Garno have organized the car show again this year, recruiting eye-catching entries from all over mid-Michigan.

Participants compete for trophies with separately judged classes for vehicles pre 1950, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Special award trophies will be presented for Ladies’ Choice, Best of Show, Best Paint, Best Engine and Wildest Toy.

Prize drawings will be held throughout the day. Each entrant receives a “goodie bag” that contains information and goodies useful for car owners, Gardner said.

General registration will be held the day of the show, Sept. 26, between 8 and 11 a.m.; with judging by 2:30 p.m. and awards at 3 p.m.

The cost is $15 per entry on the day of the event. Or save $5 when you pre-register with payment before Sept. 9. For preregistration before Sept. 9, send $10 and your name, address, phone number, email address, vehicle year/make/model to: St. Charles Area Chamber of Commerce, c/o 1219 Flint St., St. Charles, MI 48655.

The “Run from the Mosquitoes” will start at 10 a.m. on Sept. 25, with registration closing on Thursday, Sept. 23, at 11:59 a.m. The race will start from Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Drive, St. Charles, and go out to the Saginaw Rail Trail leading into downtown St. Charles and back to Humpula Funeral Home.

Awards for the 5k Run will be presented to overall male and female winners, as well as age group winners three deep. Age Groups are as follows: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over. Awards will also be presented to the top male and female walkers.

Another new event held in conjunction with the Golden Oldies Car Show this year is the Disc Golf Tournament. According to Patrick Mishler, it will run similar to the Tuesday disc golf leagues held at the park. Anyone interested can show up at the Pines Disc Golf Course at St. Charles Area Park, along Parkway Drive before 1 p.m. on Sept. 26. The cost is $5 per player, bring your own discs. If needed, discs are available for purchase at Frank's grocery store in St. Charles and ACE Hardware in Chesaning.
