Johnson Johnson Northwood University in Midland has announced its dean’s list for the spring semester, 2011. To achieve dean’s list recognition, students must earn a 3.25 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Among local honorees were: Taylor D. Luft, senior, and Bradley A. Smith, junior, both of Montrose; Joseph E. Bitterman, senior, of Chesaning; Joshua C. Struck, senior, of Oakley; Nicholas S. Immel, freshman, of St. Charles; and Kyle C. Bitterman, sophomore, of New Lothrop.

Northwood University in Midland has announced its president’s list for the spring semester, 2011. To achieve president’s list recognition, students must earn a 3.85 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Among local honorees were: Dustin D. Neumeyer, senior, of Hemlock; Steven M. Cronk, senior, and Kimberly A. Santino, senior, both of St. Charles; and Marc A. Confer, junior, and Ryan L. Confer, senior, both of New Lothrop.


Bennett Bennett Northern Michigan University in Marquette has announced its dean’s list for the Winter 2011 semester. Qualifying with a grade point average of 3.25-3.99 was Mallory M. Newcombe, of Montrose.

Air Force Airman Corey W. Adams recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Lynda and Terry Adams, of New Lothrop, and a 2005 graduate of New Lothrop High School. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Laura Ellen Johnson graduated magna cum laude from Michigan State University College of Law on Friday, May 13, 2011. A 2000 graduate of Chesaning High School, she is the daughter of Daniel and Carol Johnson, of Montrose, and the granddaughter of Phidora and the late Gunnard Johnson, of New Lothrop, and the late Leo and Laurena Bitterman, of New Lothrop.


Mr. and Mrs. Tester Mr. and Mrs. Tester Gregory Thomas Smith, of Montrose, a junior in psychology at Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Mo., has been named to the honor list for the 2011 spring semester. Honor list recipients must have carried a minimum of 12 hours and had grade point averages of 3.2 or above out of a possible 4.0. Missouri S&T is one of four campuses in the University of Missouri system and one of the nation’s top technological research universities.

Second Lieutenant Brittany Bennett, daughter of Terry and the late Tammy (Pirochta) Bennett, both 1975 Chesaning High School graduates, graduated from the Air Force Academy on May 25. Grandparents Bob and Marion Weigold, of Chesaning, traveled to the Colorado Springs event and were also present at the ceremony of their granddaughter’s marriage to Second Lieutenant Michael Tester in Breckenridge, Colo. on May 28. Several Chesaning and Michigan family members made the trip to share in the proud occasions. After honeymooning in Jamaica, the Testers will be stationed in Pensacola, Fla.


Stasa Stasa Thomas C. Stasa, of Chesaning, has been named a recipient of a presidential scholarship to Grand Valley State University. Stasa, a recent graduate of Chesaning Union High School, is the son of Dan and Anne Stasa. To be considered for a presidential scholarshp, the recipient must have a 3.8 high school grade point average (GPA), a minimum ACT score of 32, and attend a scholarship competition. The award is renewable for three consecutive years with a minimum of a 3.5 GPA or better.


Barancik Barancik Delta College has announced its president’s list for the Winter 2011 semester. To be eligible, students must receive a 4.0 grade point average and must complete at least six credit hours. Among the full time students were local honorees: Christopher Heinlein, of Brant; Kyle Jacobs and Sarah Quirante, both of Burt; Hilary Krupp, Hannah Olgine, Brittany Pratt and Kaylee Rogers, all of Chesaning; Shane Aguilar, of Montrose; and Joni Harshman and Stephanie Olson, both of St. Charles. Among the part time students were local honorees: Kathleen Townsend, of Brant; Joseph Pagel, Deanna Thompson and Thomas Wolverton, all of Burt; Diane Bowen, Adam Gomez, April Mallory, Heather Sizemore and Chad Swanson, all of Chesaning; Daniel Gruzd and Kayla Henige, both of New Lothrop; Serra Lipa, of Oakley; and Timothy Andrusiak, Christopher Gerding and Dion Leitz, all of St. Charles.

Delta College has announced its vice president’s list for the Winter 2011 semester. To be eligible, students must receive a 3.7 – 3.99 grade point average and must complete at least six credit hours. Among the full time students were local honorees: Carmen Sawchuk, of Burt; Cassandra Gilbert, DeAnn Gutowski, Laura Henry, Kevin Kuchar, Whitney Pacek, Rebecca Reiber and Mary Rhodes, all of Chesaning; Lindsay Wendling, of New Lothrop; and Justin Hedrich, Christy Hernandez, Ariel Hutton, Ryan Tatroe, Brandon Theile, Erich Wicke and Amanda Wright, all of St. Charles; Among the part time students were local honorees: Mark Merchant, Jill Strieter, Alicia Wasmiller and Rebecca Zavala, all of Burt; Haley Fowler, John Gross, Kelly Stafford, Wendy Storm and Joshua Tithof, all of Chesaning; Jessica Baker and Aaron Hinman, both of Montrose; Devin Henige, of New Lothrop; and Jacob Fleet, Wayne Fortier, Courtney Martinski, Heather Rosser and Teresa Savage, all of St. Charles.


Hoskins Hoskins Delta College has announced its president’s list for the Winter 2011 semester. To be eligible, students must receive a 3.5 through 3.69 grade point average and must complete at least six credit hours. Among the full time students were local honorees: Sarah Carlton, Julie Damsen and Kasey Lenhart, all of Burt; Jennifer Lingle, Ashley Root, Esther Scanlon and Christine Stevens, all of Chesaning; Peter Aguilar, of

Montrose; David Hawes, of Oakley; and Karla Call, Jordan Garske, James Rohwetter, Janessa Wooley and Ashley Yeager, all of St. Charles. Among the part time students were local honorees: Kathy McInerney, of Brant; Danielle Rychlicki and Sarah Rychlicki, both of Burt; Kelsie Angst, Amber Barckholtz, John Hoover, Nehemiah Olgine and Anthony Shripka, all of Chesaning; Rolandia Harris and Aaron Hemgesberg, both of New Lothrop; Spencer Stutler, of Oakley; and Cameron Adams, Mercedes Gonzales, Kevin Kilbourn and Christine Roach, all of St. Charles.

Tara Barancik recently graduate from The George Washington University with a master of arts degree in international affairs. Having concentrated in international education, Barancik will remain in Washington, D.C. And work at the U.S. Department of State in the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The daughter of Jeff and Terry Barancik, of Chesaning, she graduate in 2001 from Michigan Lutheran Seminary, and in 2006 from Saginaw Valley State University with bachelor of business administration and bachelor of arts in Spanish degrees.

Kimberly A. (Ondrias) Hoskins, a graduate of Chesaning High School, graduated in May, 2011 from the University of Michigan with high honors with a master’s degree in nursing as an adult nurse practitioner. She is the daughter of Gini and Dan Lynch and Lorence Richard Ondrias. She is the granddaughter of Steve Bompezzi and the late Rosemary Bompezzi. Hoskins currently resides in Howell with her two daughters, Morgan and Krystal.
