Racing for a Cause brings families together to make a difference
SAGINAW – Families will work together to raise money for a Saginaw County charity while enjoying the excitement of Hot Wheels racing during Racing for a Cause on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Saginaw Kmart store, 5135 Gratiot Road.
The event will raise money for the Community Prescription Support Program (CrxSP), an organization that assists low income residents in obtaining essential medications. Last year, Racing For A Cause raised about $1,100 for Saginaw County charities through racing events.
The small die cast cars are raced along a 50 foot seamless track with an electric starting gate and finish line; the winning cars move on to the next round in the single elimination style event. Racers can donate $5 for one car, $10 for three cars, or $20 for three cars and a Racing For A Cause t-shirt. Cars will be provided at registration and only the provided cars are allowed to race. Prizes, donated by local businesses, and trophies will be awarded to the finalists.
The event is open to all ages and children must be accompanied by an adult.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., with the races beginning at 10 a.m.
“The volunteers at CRxSP work extremely hard,” said Racing for a Cause Founder Glenn Thornton. “It’s unbelievable what they do for the residents of Saginaw County.”
Thornton started the event out of both a passion for Hot Wheels cars, as well as to offer a way for parents and kids to work together for a bigger cause. “It’s an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors while also getting involved with our youth,” Thornton said.
All of the proceeds from the events held throughout the year are donated to Saginaw County organizations, keeping the funds local.
