Broad St. CLUBS AND CIVIC GROUPS • The SHIAWASSEE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY will meet on Sunday, March 25 at 2 p.m. in the Archives/Museum Building on M-52 northThe Shiawassee County Historical Society will meet on Sunday, March 25 at 2 p.m. in the Archives/Museum Building on M-52 north of Owosso. The speakers will be Arline Jennex and Patti Page. Both are antique dealers who specialize in antique jewelry. Learn how to distinguish between real and fake jewelry, how to test for “real” gold and silver, and the difference between 10K and 14K gold. Guests can bring in their own jewelry to share and for appraisal. The public is invited to attend, and there will be time for fellowship. Visitors can check out the Civil War articles and the latest news on the bulletin board. • The FLINT GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY is sponsoring a genealogy research trip to the Allen County Public Lbirary in Fort Wayne, Ind. The bus will be leaving Flint at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24, and returning about midnight on Wednesday, April 25. The fare is $35 for society members, and $40 for non-members. Anyone interested in serving on the Task Force board in the future or seeking information about Task Force can call (989) 845-6061. • The TAYMOUTH HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION will be taking a short road trip this month, holding its Wednesday, March 28 meeting at the Montrose Historical and Telephone Pioneer Museum. The evening will start at 7 p.m. with a short business meeting, followed by a presentation by the museum staff and a guided tour. The museum has an impressive collection of telephone artifacts, and many historical items, including those from Taymouth Township and the surrounding area. • An AUCTION FUNDRAISER to benefit the River Rapids Pedestrian Bridge will be held on Saturday, April 14. Donations of new, gently used, or “antique” auction items are needed and appreciated. Call the Chesaning Village Office at (989) 845-3800 for more information. • The RESPITE VOLUNTEERS OF SHIAWASSEE PURSE BINGO PARTY is scheduled for Thursday April 19 at GiGi’s Banquet Center located at 3144 East M-21, east of State Road. Doors open at 6 p.m. and games start at 7 p.m. Bingo prizes are purses with a retail value of at least $40. Advance Tickets are $15 ($20 day of the event) which includes 20 bingo cards to play 20 games. Extra cards may be purchased to increase the chances to win a favorite purse. Light refreshments and door prizes will add to the fun ladies’ night out. Tickets are on sale now and available at the Respite Volunteers of Shiawassee office, 710 W. King St., Owosso, near the King Street entrance of Memorial Healthcare. Tickets may also be obtained from Respite Volunteer Board Members and Respite Volunteers. Saginaw St., Montrose, will present LIVING STATIONS OF THE CROSS at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 30. The youth group will present a lyrical skit, “Everything,” immediately following. The public is welcome. This is a powerful lyrical skit that will move the heart. The skit focuses on a variety of relevant issues facing young people today such as: depression, anxiety, alcohol/drug addictions, vanity, obsession with outward appeareance, eating disorders and suicide. The skit reveals the answer to these issues and it will undoubtedly renew a person’s faith - whether they’re 8 or 88. Refreshments will be served. There will also be a 50/50 raffle, half of which goes towards the use of the hall. This is a social gathering of those 18 years and older. Players do not need to have a partner. Call (989) 865-9075 for information. SCHOOLS • The Montrose TUITION-BASED PRESCHOOL PROGRAM is now enrolling 3, 4 and 5 year old students for the 2012-13 school year. This program focuses on getting children ready for kindergarten. The program is Monday through Thursday for a half-day, and is taught by a certified teacher. BAZAARS AND CRAFT SHOWS • There will be an EASTER CRAFT SHOW AND FLEA MARKET on Saturday, March 31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Saginaw County Fairgrounds, 11350 Peet Road, Chesaning. There will be baked goods and candies, Avon, candles, leather goods, baby items, wood products, jewelry, Tupperware and more. Food will be available. Hemlock Road. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES • A RESPITE VOLUNTEER TRAINING is scheduled for Thursday, April 12 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the St. Paul Catholic Church, 111 N. Howell St. in Owosso. A light meal will be provided at the training. The training is designed to prepare volunteers to serve adults with ongoing health needs, and their caregiving families, and especially persons who are frail, elderly, and living alone. There is no cost to attend the training. Respite Volunteers serves Shiawassee County, and additional volunteers are needed throughout the county, including the northern Shiawassee area, Ovid, Elsie, Henderson, Owosso, Corunna, New Lothrop, Laingsburg, Perry, Morrice, Bancroft, Byron, Durand, Vernon, and Lennon communities, in order to serve all the persons and caregiving families requesting help. SENIORS • COFFEE AND CONVERSATION FOR SENIORS is held every Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Swanhaven Manor, 300 Kennely road in Thomas Township. Enjoy refreshments and fellowship in the Swan Room.
