Forsyth, Indians run wild over ‘Jays, 62-18

CHESANING – The Chesaning var­sity football team gave the Homecoming crowd something to cheer about last Friday night with a 62-18 win over visit­ing Shepherd.

Senior running back Sam Forsyth had a stellar night, rushing for 239 yards on 10 carries with four touchdowns and one two-point conversion. He also had two catches for 74 yards and another touch­down.

The Indians got on the board with 8:39 remaining in the first on a 16 yard TD run by Forsyth. Cole Higley kicked the PAT.

A little over two minutes late, at 6:23 of the first, Forsyth struck again, this time on a 20 yard run. Higley’s PAT was good.

Forsyth got the hat trick at 2:31 of the first, this time on a 44 yard touchdown run. The PAT was no good, giving the Tribe a 20-6 lead after one period of play.

With 7:31 left in the second quarter, Higley scored on an eight yard run. Forsyth ran in the two-point conversion.

At the 5:08 mark of the second, Brady Frasier broke free on a 49 yard TD run. Brendan Greenfelder booted the PAT.

Late in the second, Jacob Turnwald picked off an errant Shepherd pass and returned it 60 yards for the touchdown. Greendfelder’s PAT was good.

Then with 54 seconds left before the half, Higley connected with Forsyth on a 49 yard touchdown strike. Greenfelder’s PAT put the Tribe up 49-12 at the inter­mission.

With 7:08 left in the third quarter and a running clock, Forsyth scored on a 65 yard TD run. The PAT was no good, making the score 55-12 after three peri­ods of play.

The Indians closed out their scoring at 7:55 of the fourth on a 28 yard TD pass from Higley to Gabe Luce. Greenfelder connected on the PAT kick.

Frasier finished the night with 11 carries for 111 yards and a TD. Charlie Devota had two carries for 26 yards, and also had a 20 yard reception.

Luce had the one 28 yard TC reception. Turnwald had one catch for six yards. Jarrett Gotham had one catch for five yards.

Higley was 5 of 7 passing on the night for 128 yards and two scores. He also had eight carries for 26 yards.

The Tribe defense was led by Gotham with nine tackles and an interception. Collin Rodriguez had seven tackles and an interception. Kohl Qualls had eight tackles. Luce, Jake Stevenson and Nate Martin each had six tackles. Forsyth had five and Frasier had three. Morgan Miller, Garrett Quackenbush, Anthony Aguado and Nick Vargas had two tackles apiece.

The win puts the Indians at 2-4 in the Tri-Valley Conference Central Division, 3-4 overall.
