Writer thanks council for following wishes of community

Dear Editor,

I would like to say thank you to the Village Council members, citizens and business owners of Chesaning for embracing and supporting economic growth and development in our community. The village government has proven over and over again they support economic growth. It is refreshing to see one of the bodies of government in Chesaning understand that the majority of the citizens in both the village and township support the legal, medical marijuana facilities despite what a few individuals have voiced.

Incorrect information was stated in a letter to the editor in the March 11, 2018 edition of the paper. This is frustrating, as, some people would believe whatever they read, without fact checking. I would like to address some of the incorrect statements made in that letter with correct information.

First, the voters of the State of Michigan (by a 64 percent margin) chose to legalize the use of cannabis for medical purposes. The citizens of both Chesaning Township and the Village of Chesaning voted to legalize medical marijuana.

Second, every single grown batch of medical marijuana to be consumed by smoking as defined by the law must be tested for numerous criteria by safety compliance licensed facility and pass the safety standards, before it can be entered into the market.

Third, it is important to note that the THC percentages of the majority of products on the market can be one of the deciding factors in a patient choosing what medicine works best for them.

Last, card holders are not “using their own means to get what they want.” As a card holder myself, for that to be said is incredibly insulting. I would never refer to medical marijuana as the “good stuff” as it was stated in last week’s letter to the editor.

I also encourage all voters to let your voice be heard and contact your county commissioner in support of the annexation of the old Peet Packing property.
