Lady Hornets sweep Montrose

NEW LOTHROP – New Lothrop’s varsity softball team pounded out 34 hits against visiting Montrose on Thursday, May 10, in an 11-4, 11-1 double header sweep of the Lady Rams.

Alyssa Schnell, Brooke Birchmeier and Joely Angst each collected three hits in the opener to pace NL’s potent attack. Schnell stroked a triple and a double as part of her output while two of Birchmeier’s hits were two-baggers.

Julia Martin smashed a homer and a single in Game One. Aleya Olk and Emma Muron added a double and a single apiece. Lyndsi Wendling threw a four-hitter and struck out five to earn the win on the slab.

Muron amassed a home run, double, two singles, four runs scored and three RBI’s in the five-inning mercy rule win by NL in the nightcap.

Martin clubbed three doubles and knocked in four teammates while Charleigh Birchmeier chipped in with a pair of doubles. Schnell blasted a home run during the Game Two romp.

Paige Bishop, who added two hits to the 16-hit assault, picked up the decision in the circle as she scattered four hits and struck out three.
