Chesaning Kiwanis 5K Run 4 Kids set for July 15 at CHS

CHESANING – The Chesaning Kiwanis 5K Run/Walk takes place Sunday, July 15, with the start and finish at Chesaning High School, 850 N. Fourth St. Participants who register online before 11:59 p.m., Sunday, July 8 will be guaranteed an event t-shirt and savings on registration fees. Early registration fees for the 5K Run/Walk are $25 per participant.

There’s also a half-mile Kids Fun Run with a $10 registration fee. Each child age 12 and under, who participates in the Kids Fun receives an award.

Groups of three or more participants for either race receive a $5 discount per participant.

Cindy Weisenberger said, “The 5K run and walk has been an annual summer event sponsored by different organizations over the years. Kiwanis is excited to be the sponsor this year with its focus on raising funds to support various children-focuses service projects.”

This year’s race benefits the Big Rockin’ Book Bus. The Big Rockin’ Book Bus is a summer literacy program that brings books and free lunches for children to designated locations throughout the Chesaning Union Schools School District. Meals are funded through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) summer lunch program.

The Big Rockin’ Book Bus was developed by literacy coach Michelle Schroeder to keep students reading throughout the summer, even if they don’t live in town.
